Creative Writing winners!

Published on 31/03/17

Today we announced the first ever winners in our Charles Cantor Creative Writing Competition.

All the Year 10 students who took part received recognition for their work. The judges were very impressed with the standard of entries and the creative responses to the theme of 'Beginnings'.

Entries covered a variety of genres, including science fiction and thrillers, as well as both poetry and prose.

The winner, Travis Padgett, created a story that was described by one of the judges as being so visual it could easily be translated to a graphic novel.

Head of English at Silverdale, Mr Benn, shared a quotation with the students that also appeared on their certificates: "Writing is an exploration. You start with nothing and learn as you go". We hope this journey is repeated in future years as every year of students gets the opportunity to enter this competition.

The prize is funded by a bequest from the family of Charles Cantor, a former student of the school.
