Outstanding Achievement for All

School Expansion

Sheffield City Council is embarking on a programme to ensure that the significantly larger number of children coming through the city’s primary schools can be accommodated at secondary level.  Silverdale School is excited to be a key part of this programme and the proposals to create 300 additional secondary and 100 6th Form places at the school will contribute in achieving this target.

Silverdale School has agreed to expand entry numbers for the Y7 intake in September 2016 from 180 to 240 students.  We would like to warmly welcome these students and their families to the Silverdale Community.

Building extension
As a result Silverdale School is proposing an exciting new extension (subject to planning permission) to our current building which will provide us with the additional classrooms we will need to accommodate 240 students per year.  The intention is that this will house our English and Modern Foreign Languages departments, the Learning Resource Centre, extended dining space a dedicated Sixth Form study and social space, as well as conference facilities for Sheffield Teaching School Alliance.  In addition, the current building will be remodelled giving us four new Science laboratories and extended PE facilities.

It is anticipated that building work will commence in January/February 2017 (subject to planning) and the new extension will be ready to open in spring 2018.  All refurbishment and building work will be completed for an official opening in September 2018.

Planning applications for the scheme, when submitted, can be viewed on Sheffield City Council’s website:

Consultation - we would like to share our plans for the new extension at Silverdale School with you
We held a consultation event with Sheffield City Council on Monday 11th July 2016, 4-7pm at Silverdale School.  The attached plans were displayed and local residents had the opportunity to discuss their views on the building.  Any comments or questions as part of the consultation can be emailed to  until midnight 29th July 2016.

It is our intention to apply for planning consent in August 2016.  To that end, we would welcome any feedback and comments from all stakeholders to help refine our proposals.
