Outstanding Achievement for All

Silverdale Stampede - the results!

Report from Silverdale PTA:

So the first ever Silverdale Stampede has been run and the weather was lovely and kind to us! The full results can be downloaded from the file on this page but below is a report of the whole event....

First of all, an apology to Fun Runners for confusion over the route. For those of you who ran extra distance WELL DONE! You are all super heroes and deserve a pat on the back at the very least. It was amazing to see those that made it to the school field and then were turned back, go on to complete the route with such determination. That’s a real skill and lesson to us all. The results table can’t pick you guys out, but you know who you are!

In the 10k, or 10k-ish, first male home was Gavin Keight in a super speedy time of 36:06, just 6 seconds over his estimate. First female was Jodie Thake in a time of 41:53, just 7 seconds under her estimate. What professionals!

In the 15-18 category, we had Andrew Deery and Ciara Shiles. For both of them, it was the first time they had run this sort of distance, so hats off to you! Bring your pals next year!

Over the two runs, we had a huge variation in ages, with our youngest runners being just 4 and our oldest at 72. This is exactly what we wanted - to show that everyone can pop on some running shoes and join in.

Thank you to the teachers (pictured above) who agreed to be chased. It was a great incentive for everyone!

We received some fantastic donations of prizes from local businesses. It was lovely to see a prize table heaving under the weight of such goodies and especially nice to see that many of the prizes were given as spot prizes. So it really can pay to turn up and run! As we’d said all along, it’s not the winning, it’s the taking part!

Huge thanks to all of the marshals for giving up their Sunday morning to stand at various points for varying amounts of time. Without such volunteers, putting on an event like this is impossible. Thanks to Whirlow Farm and the landowners for allowing us to use their land. Thanks also to Spencer Estate Agent for making a very generous donation towards the running costs. Support from local companies such as this hugely impacts on the financial success of the event. After all, it is all about making money which the school can use to plug gaps in these very challenging budget times.
